Case Study – Marine Engineer

Client : Selby Chew, Fruin Engineering

Selby Chew of Fruin Engineering in Helensburgh, Scotland, outlines two recent incidents where Cyrus Eradicate has got his customers back on the move;

Case 1:

Selby Chew says: “I was called to a Corvette motor launch whose engines had cut out on the way to being lifted out in the marina. Both fuel separator/filter assemblies were completely choked with MBG and as the fuel tanks were integral there was no way of gaining access to clean. Both tanks were approx. 1000 litres capacity but only had 300 litres in them giving max condensation problem which probably led to the MBG
“I dosed both tanks with Cyrus Eradicate and left alone for 72hrs. I then fitted new filters, cleaned the fuel lines, primed the fuel system and ran both engines. The boat was taken out for sea trials a few weeks later with no problems at all.

“The owner was happy with the results but failed to fill both fuel tanks going into winter so I dosed with Cyrus Marine and left. The boat wasn’t used for 6 months however it still started easily and ran for several hours under load and the filters still do not need replacing.”

Case 2:

Selby Chew says: “I was called out to a launch fitted with 2x CAT diesels. It had been reported that the engines had been running erratically and failed to give full power. The fuel tank fillers are enclosed in a bund but the seals were missing from the filler caps so sea water easily leaked into the tanks.

“There was about a cupful of MBG removed from each fuel filter. Each fuel tank was dosed with Cyrus Eradicate and left for two days. Both engines were run for about an hour, new filters fitted and the launch has had no further problems.”
